Etymology

edit

Ultimately from Late Latin aphorismus, from Ancient Greek ἀφορισμός (aphorismós, pithy phrase containing a general truth), from ἀφορίζω (aphorízō, I define, mark off or determine), from ἀπό (apó, off) + ὁρίζω (horízō, I divide, bound), from ὅρος (hóros, boundary).
