Etymology edit

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بالعكس (bilʿaks, bilʿakis, “on the contrary”),^[1]^[2] from Arabic بِالْعَكْس (bi-l-ʕaks), from بِـ (bi-) +‎ اَلْ (al-) +‎ عَكْس (ʕaks),^[3] equivalent to bil- +‎ akis (“reflection”).
