Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish بیله‌مك (bilemek, to sharpen), from Proto-Turkic *bile- (to sharpen).[1] Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (bile-, to sharpen), Southern Altai билеер (bileer, to whet), билӱ (bilü), Kumyk билев (bilew), etc.
