AlbanianEdit

EtymologyEdit

Hypothesized to be derived from Latin *pastica, from pastus,[1] but unlikely because of unsolved phonetic difficulties. More likely from *bjershkë, a derivative of bie (to fall) (see pjeshkë < *pjershkë < Latin persica). The term could be the source or related to the oronym [Beskidy]] mountains[2].

NounEdit

bjeshkë f (indefinite plural bjeshkë, definite singular bjeshka, definite plural bjeshkët)

  1. mountain, mountain pasture
