box boy (plural box boys)

  1. A man who assists a disc jockey by transporting and setting up the speakers, the collection of records, etc.
    • 1997, Chris Potash, Reggae, Rasta, Revolution: Jamaican Music from Ska to Dub:
      The moving staff (or “box boys” as they are called because they lift a lot of speaker boxes) are in charge of transporting and positioning the equipment.
    • 2015, MC Flux, Dirty:
      [] we drank to get a nice level while nodding our heads to some sweet reggae music.
      Pete, Ade, Dinford, Andy P and Derrick Green had been their box boys since their early school days, Tony 'Noddy' Macdonald, Dave 'Frisky' Macdonald, Basil Grant, Harry the Snake and Curvis Butler ran the sound under the Thornton Heath banner and the sound was transported in an old brown Hovis truck.
