brushtull
Albanian
editPronunciation
editEtymology 1
editFrom Proto-Albanian *brustula, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrust- (compare Old Saxon brustian (“to sprout”), Russian брость (brostʹ, “buds (of a shrub)”), from the root *bʰrews- (“to swell, grow”).[1] Topalli has argued for a borrowing from Serbo-Croatian bljušt,[2] although this seems unlikely on phonetic grounds. Compare also Romanian brusture (“heather”).
