From West Germanic *kaisaralīk (“imperial”), possibly from a hypothetical Proto-Germanic *kaisaralīkaz. Related to West Frisian keizerlik, Dutch keizerlijk, German kaiserlich. Equivalent to cāsere (emperor) +‎ -līċ.
