Etymology edit

From Ottoman Turkish درت نعل (dört nʿal, “at full gallop, by making the animal run”),^[1]^[2]^[3] from درت (dört) and نعل (nʿal),^[4]^[5] equivalent to dört (“four”) +‎ nal (“horseshoe”) +‎ -a (dative suffix), literally “on/with four horseshoes”.
