From dis- +‎ leâ, or from Vulgar Latin disligāre, present active infinitive of disligō, from Latin dis- + ligō (tie, bind). Compare Ladin deslier, Venetan desligar, Italian slegare, French délier, Spanish desligar, desliar, Catalan deslligar, Romanian dezlega.
