editFrom Ancient Greek δωδεκαδάκτυλον (dōdekadáktulon), from δώδεκα (dṓdeka, “twelve”) + δάκτυλος (dáktulos, “finger”) ≅ “twelve-fingers[-long thing]”; compare English duodenum and German Zwölffingerdarm; cognate with Greek δωδεκαδάκτυλο (dodekadáktylo) and Italian dodecadattilo.
