From Proto-Celtic *dligeti (compare Old Irish dligid (“be entitled to; deserve”)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰlegʰ- (compare Gothic 𐌳𐌿𐌻𐌲𐍃 (dulgs, “debt”) and Old Church Slavonic длъгъ (dlŭgŭ, “debt”)).
