Etymology edit

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ال آلتندن (el altından),[1][2] from ال (al, el) and آلت (alt),[3][4] equivalent to el (hand) +‎ alt (under, lower, bottom) +‎ (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)dan (ablative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally from under the hand. Cognates with Azerbaijani əl altından.
