finfish (plural finfishes or finfish)

1. Any fish, but especially fish other than flatfish
2. (informal) Short for finned fish. As in ray-finned fish. Term is used to distinguish them from shellfish, cartilaginous fish and other similar aquatic creatures customarily used as food.
