Usage notes

edit

It is used only in nouns. Sometimes it can be combined with the word before it, and if combined, the letter i is dropped. If the word before it ends with a vowel sound, the i is replaced by a consonant y. For example:

  • öyle (like that) +‎ -imiş = öyleymiş ((I guess) he/she/it was like that or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was like that) or öyle (like that) +‎ -imiş = öyle imiş ((I guess) he/she/it was like that or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was like that).
  • çocuk (child) +‎ -imiş = çocukmuş ((I guess) he/she/it was a child or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was a child) or çocuk imiş ((I guess) he/she/it was a child or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was a child).
