  1. (computing) The part of the environment division of a COBOL program that specifies the symbolic names of external files accessed by the program

  • Capitalizes (as INPUT-OUTPUT SECTION) in the COBOL source code.
  • In an IBM mainframe environment, this specifies the ddnames to be used in the appropriate JCL.
