Pela

edit

Etymology

edit

Uncertain. Likely related with Proto-Tani *ju (demon/evil spirit), cf. Bokar u ju (ghost), also Old Chinese (*kulʔ, spirit, demon), and Tangut 𗢛 (*ꞏju¹, demon), Horpa (ghost, spirit), and Nusu ʑui³³. Compare Lhao Vo yui, Lashi yu'.

Pronunciation

edit

Noun

edit

jui⁵⁵

  1. ghost, deity

Usage notes

edit

Since Pela people are mostly animists, they do not clearly distinguish good and evil spirits by using different terms. Cf. Jingpho nat.
