FinnishEdit

EtymologyEdit

From kimpa- +‎ -le. The origin of the root is unknown, but possibly akin to either kimmota (to spring off)[1] or kimppu (bundle)[2].

NounEdit

kimpale

  1. A slab of a relatively soft material such as butter or cake.
  2. A large, irregular piece of many different materials, e.g. metal, meat, bread.
Note: Pieces of plants or rock would normally not be called kimpale in Finnish.
