From Proto-Balto-Slavic *leʔnas, *lēnas, from Proto-Indo-European *leh₁- (“soft, slow”). Balto-Slavic cognates include Latvian lȩ̃ns (“lazy”), lȩ̄̀ns (“lazy”), lȩ̂ns (“soft, mild”), Proto-Slavic *lěnъ (“lazy, slow”).[1]
