Inherited from Ottoman Turkish لا قید (lā ḳayd, "There is no need for anxiety;" who feels no care or anxiety),[1] from Arabic لَا قَيْد (lā qayd), from لَا (, no, not) and قَيْد (qayd, chain, bond, restriction, registration).[2]
