Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish لاابالی (la-ubāli, (I care not), careless, free and easy),[1][2] from Arabic لَا أُبَالِي (lā ʔubālī, I don't care), from لَا (, no, not) and أُبَالِي (ʔubālī), non-past (imperfect) indicative of بَالَى (bālā, to care about, to notice, to pay attention).[3]
