maquiâ
Macanese
editEtymology
editUniverbation of Portuguese má criar or mal criar (literally “bad raise”). Compare Spanish malcriar (“to spoil”), malcriado (“spoiled”). Usage of ma- over mal- may be due to natural consonant dropping in Macanese, or it may be due to influence from the noun maquiaçám. Related to quiança and quiada, also displaying /kr/ → /k/.
