- (zoology, obsolete) A member of the Mastigopoda (protozoans which possess cilia or flagella).
- 1888, Thomas Henry Huxley, A Manual of the Anatomy of Invertebrated Animals, page 77:
- After swimming about for a while, these mastigopods draw in their flagella, and become creeping myxopods.
Usage notes
edit- Single-cell (but possibly colony-forming) organisms with flagella can be found in kingdoms Protozoa, Plantae, and Chromista.
- Single-cell ciliates are usually now placed in kingdom Chromista, in class Ciliophora.
