From Miser (“a surname”) +‎ -ite, named for Dr. Hugh D. Miser, a geologist of the U.S. Geological Survey.[1]

  1. (mineralogy) A lilac-pink or red triclinic-pinacoidal rare-earth mineral of interest also for cleaning up radioactive and other wastes and for ceramics.
