Particularly: “Not mentioned by Ratliff at all. The proto-Hmongic form would be something similar to *ɲciᶜ or *ɲɟiᶜ, which seems to correspond to tsy and gjw in Middle Chinese. Borrowed from Middle Chinese (MC tsyuw, “to encircle; whole, complete”) then? Even the tonal category seems to match (去聲去声 (qùshēng), aka the departing tone or tone C).”
