From Proto-Tai *ɗɤːtᴰ (to boil (intransitive)). Cognate with Thai เดือด (dʉ̀ʉat), Lao ເດືອດ (dư̄at), Shan လိူတ်ႇ (lòet). Also compare Cantonese (naat3, “to burn; to scald”).
