Etymology

Borrowed from South Slavic, ultimately either from Proto-Slavic *pàdati (fall) whence Serbo-Croatian nà-padatiна̀-падати (to attack)[1][2] or from Proto-Slavic *pǫditi (to chase) whence Macedonian пади (padi, to chase out).[3][4]
