From translingual Paludina, from Latin palūs (a marsh, pool).

paludina (plural paludinas or paludinae)

  1. Any of numerous species of freshwater pectinibranchiate mollusks, belonging to Viviparus (syn. Paludina), Melantho, and allied genera in family Viviparidae, with operculated shells, usually green, often with brown bands.
