Etymology

Compound of pengadilan (“court”) +‎ agung (“supreme”), calque from Japanese 最高法院(さいこうほういん) (saikōhōin, “supreme court”), term used in East Asia, except for Japanese home islands, 最高裁判所(さいこうさいばんしょ) (saikōsaibansho). Continuation of Dutch hooggerechtshof (“supreme court”). Displaced by mahkamah agung.
