Etymology edit

Of unclear origin.

Either from a highly irregular development of the unattested Vulgar Latin *fendita, past participle of Latin findō (I cleave),[1] or belonging to the alleged Nuragic substrate. Compare also Etruscan 𐌐𐌄𐌍𐌈𐌍𐌀 (penθna), 𐌐𐌄𐌍𐌈𐌖𐌍𐌀 (penθuna, cippus, stele).[2]
