Etymology edit

From New Latin pīlidium, from Ancient Greek πῑλίδιον (pīlídion, little cap), diminutive of πῖλος (pîlos).

pilidium (plural pilidia)

  1. (zoology) The free-swimming, hat-shaped larva of certain nemertean worms. It has no resemblance to its parent, and the young worm develops in its interior.
