Turkish edit

Etymology edit

From Ottoman Turkish سورومك (sürümek, to drag), from Proto-Turkic *südre- (to pull, tug).[1]

Akin to Proto-Mongolic *sidur-, compare Mongolian шудрах (šudrax, to pull forward). Medial /d/ was lost instead of yielding /y/, compare a similar case at üremek. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Verb edit

sürümek (third-person singular simple present sürür)

  1. (transitive) to lug, tug, drag along the ground
