Etymology edit

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *sjej-s (know). Cognate with Burmese သိ (si., know), Tibetan ཤེས་པ (shes pa, know), Nuosu (syp, know), Western Lalu sa̠²¹, Nusu su̱⁵³, Lisu ꓢꓷꓸ (sɤ́), Hani hev, Naxi see, Tangut 𗓂 (*sjɨ²), Japhug sɯz, Situ ʃi and Tedim Chin thei. Compare Yunnan Lhao Vo sɛ⁵⁵, Zaiwa se, Longchuan Achang sa³⁵ and Hpon ʃì’.
