Pronunciation edit
Etymology 1 edit
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-ta-t (“to put, to place”). Cognate with Burmese ထား (hta:, “to put”), Tibetan འདེགས་པ ('degs pa, “to put”), Old Chinese 著 (OC *taʔ, *tas, *da, *taɡ, *daɡ), Nuosu ꄉ (da, “to put”) and Jingpho da (“to put”). Compare Zaiwa dvo and Longchuan Achang tʰɔ³¹. A parallel grammaticalisation with Chinese 著 (“put”) has occurred (“to put” > “indicating continuous action”).
Verb edit
ta̠³⁵ (reduced form tə̠̆-)
- to put, to place
- (auxiliary) particle indicating the present continuous condition of the preceding verb

- ja̠p⁵⁵ ta̠³⁵ (“to go to sleep”)
- lɔ̃³⁵ ta̱³¹ (“to wait”)
- sɛ³⁵ ta̠³¹ (“to remember”)
- ta̠³⁵ ta̠³¹ (“to put, to place”)
- tsɔ̃³⁵ ta̠³⁵ (“to pile up”)

- kɛ̠ʔ⁵⁵ (“to put in”)
Etymology 2 edit
Possibly related with Proto-Sino-Tibetan *l-t(y)ak (“to rise, to ascend, to climb, upper part”), although another verb taʔ³¹ (“to ascend, to attend (school)”) matching this better exists. Cognate with Burmese ထ (hta., “to rise, to get up”). Compare Lhao Vo to", Zaiwa dvoq and Longchuan Achang tʰɔʔ⁵⁵.

Usage notes edit
Etymology 1 and 2 have become homophones due to historical sound changes in Pela (cf. Zaiwa dvo vs. dvoq). Since both of them can form compounds with the verb ja̠p⁵⁵ (“sleep”), the compound verb ja̠p⁵⁵ ta̠³⁵ is confusing and its correct meaning can be almost only understood with the help of contexts. However, some speakers still use, though sporadically, an alternative form, ta̠ʔ for Etymology 2.

- jɛʔ³¹ (“to stand”)
Etymology 3 edit
Causative verb of ta³¹ (“to eat”), cf. Old Chinese 食 (OC *lɯɡs, *ɦljɯɡ). See ta³¹ for more information.
