  1. (obsolete) A coarse cloth made of hemp, used for packing goods, etc.
    • 1609, John Skene, Regiam Majestatem:
      In Merchandice na Merchant sall passe over the sea, except he haue thrie Serplaiths of wooll, of hiw awin proper gudes.
