editInherited from Ottoman Turkish سوق (sevk, “a driving, urging, sending, an inciting”),[1] from Arabic سَوْق (sawq, “driving, mobilization”), verbal noun of سَاقَ (sāqa, “to drive, to conscript, to pilot”).[2]
