From Proto-Indo-European *tärm-, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *trem- (tremble), taking its meaning from "trembling with anger". Compare Latin tremō, Lithuanian trem̃ti, Albanian tremb. Compare also the related Tocharian B tremi (anger, noun).
