Etymology edit

From Old Swedish thienst, þiǣnist, þiānist (service, decoration of honor), possibly from Old Saxon thionust or Old Frisian thianost, from Proto-Germanic *þewanōstaz. Akin to German Dienst, Dutch dienst.
