tooth pad (plural tooth pads)

  1. A (contiguous or segmented) patch or band, in the mouths of some fish, containing rows of teeth.

      Teeth are concentrated on the tooth pads of the pharyngeal jaws. The pads become fused to the supporting endochondral bones, so that mechanical coupling is improved.
