From Middle Dutch wrāke, wraeck, from Old Dutch wrāka, wrāca, from Proto-Germanic *wrēkō ‎(persecution, revenge), from Proto-Indo-European *wreg- ‎(to drive, press, urge). Cognate with English wrack and wreak ‎(vengenace, revenge), German Rache ‎(revenge). More at wreak.
