From Arabic خَاصّ (ḵāṣṣ, “special, particular, specific”), derived from the active participle of خَصَّ (ḵaṣṣa, “to favor, to endow, to be characteristic of, to concern”), from the root خ ص ص (ḵ ṣ ṣ).
