xyelid (plural xyelids)

  1. (zoology) Any sawfly in the family Xyelidae.
    • 1993, Memoirs of the Entomological Society of Canada:
Like raphidiids, xyelids have the mesopleuron divided into an episternum and epimeron by a distinct mesopleural suture, but the suture is angled much more obliquely and the epimeron is much smaller than the episternum (Figs. 8-10).
