Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یاهو (yāhū),[1][2] from یا (, o!) +‎ هو (, any individual talked to, (in Sufism) God), from Arabic يَا () + هُوَ (huwa).[3] Cognate of Azerbaijani yahu.
