AzerbaijaniEdit

EtymologyEdit

Doublet of yolağa, yolaq (?)

Compare Crimean Tatar yolaq/colaq (Northern Dialect), Kumyk ёлакъ (yolaq, stain), Kazakh жолақ (jolaq).

The shift of /j/ to /z/ is, however, rather unprecedented in Azerbaijani and does not account for the form zol with overlapping senses. A borrowing from Malkar is equally improbable.

NounEdit

zolaq (definite accusative zolağı, plural zolaqlar)

  1. strip
  2. stripe
  3. belt, zone
