Etymology

From Old Khmer bībhabva, bibhopa, biphopa (“world; wealth, fortune; prosperity; authority, power, might, dignity, greatness; etc”); ultimately from Pali vibhava (“possession; treasure; wealth”) or Sanskrit विभव (vibhava, “possession, treasure, wealth; power, dignity; etc”). Cognate with Lao ພິພົບ (phi phop), Modern Khmer ពិភព (piphup).
