Usage notes edit

Unlike with Korean 때문 (ttaemun), contemporary Jeju 따문 has been used with not only the nominalizing verb ending (-gi), but also with the verb ending (으)ㄴ (-eun). Thus, it's possible to see both 따문 (gat-gi ttamun-e, Because I went) and 따문 (gan ttamun-e, Because I went) in usage. Additionally, when saying "for what reason" or "why", instead of 무신거 따문에 (musin'geo ttamun-e), like with Korean 때문에 (mwo ttaemune), Jeju uses the determiner 무신/무슨 (musin/museun) to make the construction 무신 따문에 (musin ttamun-e, For what reason?).

Additionally, due to being an expression that shows causation, 따문 and words with similar meaning cannot be followed by / (-ui/-i), and can only be followed by (-e) grammatically.[1] However, as seen by the Jeju Preservation Society quote above, speakers may conflate the particles, due to having almost identical usages otherwise.
