From Proto-Philippine *duha, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *duha, from Proto-Austronesian *duSa. Cognates with Tagalog dalawa, Hiligaynon duha, Aklanon daywa, Ilocano dua. Related to Indonesian dua, Malay dua, Fijian rua, Hawaiian lua, Malagasy roa, Niuean ua, South Marquesan 'ua.
