Etymology edit

From the sound ö, IPA(key): /ø/, used in some Hungarian dialects (chiefly in the South, most notably around Szeged) instead of certain instances of the sound e, e.g. saying gyerök instead of gyerek (but not *györek or *györök because only the second e of this word may be a closed IPA(key): /e/, often marked ë in Hungarian linguistic literature, which becomes rounded in this dialect; the first letter e invariably denoting the more open sound IPA(key): /ɛ/). With the suffix -zik.
