    From Old Persian 𐎰𐎼𐎭 (θ-r-d /⁠θard-, θarad-⁠/, year), from Proto-Iranian *carHdáh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćarHáts, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ḱelh₁- (to warm up, to be hot).
