ʻia

  1. Used after a verb to denote passive voice.
    Ua ʻike ʻia ke koholā e nā kelamoku.
    The whale was seen by the sailors.

Usage notes edit

  • Sometimes written together with the preceding verb in old texts, for example ikeia for ʻike ʻia.
  • Many verbs have an irregular passive form ending in -a, -na, -hia, -ia, -kia, -lia, -mia or -nia.
