From Ancient Greek ἀποχωρέω (apokhōréō). Can be synchronically analyzed as απο- (apo-, “from”) + χωρώ (choró, “to hold, take”). The root of the second term is the same, but it is a derived form that has the opposite meaning from the Ancient Greek.
